There are moments in our lives when we are reminded of the past rather fondly. Nostalgia, as some say, is a waste of time. Almost every moment of nostalgia evokes a memory based on something that you see or hear. Who knows: one could attribute it to the retro home décor that you caught a passing glimpse of in one of your grand mom’s black and white photos albums.
Or perhaps the now considered cheesy-but-cool 60’s clothing that were the rage during your parents’ time consisting of cocktail dresses, boho chic attire and daywear for the women and cashmere sweaters, denim jackets and flannel shirts for the men to name a few, during a time when the stalwarts of American counterculture (also known as the hippie movement) made their play for freedom, love and peace leading to a ideological ‘domino effect’ of sorts.
If the 60’s belonged to the hippie movement then the 50’s clothing was everything post War World II that began with Christian Dior’s generous outfits for women that changed the course of fashion history all the way until now, that were perhaps stifled by austere forms of clothing due to the demands of the war where men weren’t far behind with their plain shirts, retro gingham shirts, Hawaiian tee shirts, long sleeve wool shirts or the sports shirts.
Say what you want though, but in looking through long last treasures of ages gone by, perhaps a piece of you and your heritage come back too.
