Here are a few surefire ways to ensure that you avoid that awful, itchy dry skin:
No hot water, only lukewarm: Using hot water will only rob your skin of its moisture. If you simply cannot manage with lukewarm water, then it is best that you keep your showers as short as possible. This means no hot tubs as well. The same applies to washing your hands.
Moisturize: The only way to ensure that your skin stays nice and soft is to moisturize it right after a shower. For best results, you should always moisturize when your skin is still damp. Remember, when drying off, do not rub your skin dry with your towel, and instead pat it dry. On especially hot days, it might help if you spray some water on your skin, and then apply some moisturizer to ensure your skin is well moisturized.
Exfoliate: Use a scrub on your skin at least once a week. Use a mild scrub for your face. Exfoliating your skin makes the moisturizer even more effective. If you have particularly dry skin, try dry brushing it before a shower.
Use a humidifier: A humidifier can come in handy, especially during winter. Ensure that your doors are kept closed, so that the moist air stays within the room. At least 30% humidity is needed for your skin to continue being moisturized properly.
No drying soaps: Opt for moisturizing shower gels as opposed to soaps that will dry your skin. Look for shower gels that contain either glycerin or petroleum jelly.
