Botox was used in medical treatments since 1989. Since 2002, many use Botox to smooth frown lines to maintain youthful appearance. Doctors and others who are promoting Botox treatments claim that it is safe, affordable, effective, and no discomfort while treating or after treatment. This may be why many use it as the preferred anti-aging and anti-wrinkle treatment option over others. No serious effect of cosmetic use of Botox has been reported. They claim more than 2.8 million treatments are being performed annually.
One drawback of the Botox treatment is it is temporary lasting only about four months maximum. Many fear that injecting Botox in to the face harms the face and skin. However, only 20 to 70 units of Botox are used for cosmetic purposes and it considered as a very low dose that is way less than the lethal dose of 3,000 units. Some say Botox freezes their facial impressions. But the Botox practitioners’ claim that small doses injected to selected muscles only soften and removes wrinkles and do not compromise facial expressions. They also claim that the injections are virtually painless and require no sedation during treatments. Botox is good for treating existing wrinkles and preventing those occurring in the future.
