Those care free hours in the sun and the swimming pool can create lasting damage to your skin DNA and proteins in your skin as you age. No amount of sun screen can bring back damage caused by UV rays of the sun. That’s why we get wrinkles, sagging and blemishes as we get older. Daily sunscreen treatment along with your moisturizer can bring some relief to your skin but depending on your age, you should take additional steps to protect your skin.
If you are in your 40s, your skin will show years of loss of dermal elastin and collagen. Skin creams that contain peptides can stimulate collagen and plump the skin. Keep in mind they can’t slow down the aging process of your skin. You can also use a moisturizer high in lactic acid, ammonium lactate or urea.
If you are in your 50s and beyond, you may notice thinning of your skin as well as easy tearing. Purple bruising is also more common at this age. You still need to use a sun screen and daily hydration, but more importantly watch for signs of skin cancer. The best thing to do is to check with a skin health professional such as a dermatologist.
